When you know where you are starting and where you want to go, the most useful question is simply: which trains run between these two stations? A trains-between search answers that in one list, so you can compare timings and classes before you book.

Use station codes for an exact match

Indian Railways identifies every station with a short code. Mumbai Central is BCT, New Delhi is NDLS, Howrah is HWH, and Chennai Central is MAS. Entering the code avoids confusion between stations with similar names and gives you an exact match.

If you are not sure of a code, you can look it up in the station search.

Run the search

  • Enter the origin station code (for example, BCT).
  • Enter the destination station code (for example, NDLS).
  • Submit to see the trains that connect the two.

Try it now with the trains-between tool.

Reading the results

  • Each train shows its number and name — note the number to check live status later.
  • Departure and arrival timings help you judge an overnight versus a day journey.
  • The days a train runs matter: some trains operate only on certain weekdays.

Once you have shortlisted a train, two follow-ups are common: checking its full stop-by-stop schedule, and tracking its live running status on the day you travel. Both start from the train number you noted here.
